Wellington was one of the 38 teams that competed in the tournament, which came to a close in Pukekohe today.
The Wellington Black A beat Auckland 1, 34 to 25.
Head of Events and International for Netball New Zealand, Kate Agnew, says Wellington has a solid netball programme.
"Their assistant coach was Irene van Dyk. You couldn't really do better than that," she says. "There's a very strong programme for the development of players for the secondary school level and younger groups, which they're seeing the fruition of."
The tournament is the largest event on Netball New Zealand's calendar with more than 450 young players.
Agnew says the competition was a huge success.
"Not only did we have so many players but we also had so many families and friends around the courts."
She says the tournament show cases New Zealand's best talent.
"Just about all of the current world champion under-21 team, who have recently returned from Botswana, have played in this under-17 tournament," she says. "They were all initially identified at this event."
