The National MP for Maungakiekie in Auckland announced his retirement last year in December, after 10 years in local and national politics.
MIT Chief Executive Gus Gilmore says they're delighted to attract someone of Lotu-Iiga's calibre to the role, which is focused on lifting the educational and employment outcomes for Pasifika students.
Lotu-Iiga held the ministerial portfolios for Corrections, Local Government, Ethnic Communities and was the Associate Minister of Health.
In a statement released today Lotu-Iiga says he's delighted to be joining MIT.
He will take up the position on September 25, two days after the general election.
